Origin
The Cereus peruvianus 'Monstrosus', also known as the 'Monstrose Apple Cactus', originates from South America. These are slow-growing cacti, commonly found in the arid desert regions of Peru and Uruguay. The climatic and soil conditions have greatly influenced the evolution and development of this unique species.
Characteristics
The Cereus peruvianus 'Monstrosus' can be recognised by its long, straight cactus body with a wavy surface and multiple growth points. The plant usually grows in chunks with large, irregular ribs. Each segment ends in a tuft of bristly spikes. Notably, there are striking white flowers that open at night and give off a sweet scent.
Care
Caring for the Cereus peruvianus 'Monstrosus' requires special attention given its natural habitat. The plant needs a lot of light, preferably direct sunlight, and thrives at temperatures between 10 and 30 degrees Celsius. Over-watering must be absolutely avoided as the plant is naturally accustomed to dry conditions. The soil must be well-drained, and the plant only needs additional fertilisation during the growth period.
