Origin
The Trachycarpus fortunei, also known as the Chinese fan palm, originates from parts of Asia, including China and India. It has adapted well to local European climates and is often found in parks, gardens and public spaces.

Characteristics
The Trachycarpus fortunei is a hardy palm that can withstand temperatures down to -15 degrees Celsius. The plant can grow up to 12 metres tall and has fan-shaped leaves that grow at the ends of long, stalked stems. The trunk of this palm species is covered with fibrous, rough bark. In the spring, the Trachycarpus fortunei produces yellowish flowers, which are followed by blue-black, egg-shaped fruits.

Care
A Trachycarpus fortunei needs well-drained soil and should not be sat in stagnant water. In the growing period, this palm has a moderate to high water requirement. The plant prefers a sunny or partially shaded location, and a sheltered spot is recommended to protect the plant from strong wind. Annual fertilisation with special palm fertilizer is desirable, contributing to healthy growth and development of the plant. In severe winters, it is important to protect the palm from cold and drying wind.
