Origin
The Aspidistra elatior 'milky way', also known as 'Iron plant', has its origin in East Asia. This plant species predominantly occurs in Taiwan, Chinese provinces like Hainan and Yunnan, and Japanese islands such as Kyushu and Ryu Kyu. In the past, the plant was often placed in rooms with little light, such as halls and reception rooms, which led it to be nicknamed 'Iron plant'.

Characteristics
The Aspidistra elatior 'milky way' is a sturdy house plant that is characterised by its dark green, leathery leaves that taper to a point. This plant species can reach a height of about 60 to 70 cm. The leaves often have light-coloured or white speckles, which give the plant its 'milky way' nickname. The flowers are small, fleshy and are located close to the ground, usually hidden beneath the leaves.

Care
In terms of caring for the Aspidistra elatior 'milky way', it should be taken into account that the plant prefers a location with little light. The plant has a moderate water requirement and the soil needs to be slightly moist; excess water in the pot can cause root rot. It's advisable to lightly fertilize the plant at least once a month. The Aspidistra elatior 'milky way' can be grown indoors all year round and is well suited for air purification in a room or office.
