Origin
The Musa 'Tropicana', also known as the dwarf banana plant, originates from Southeast Asia and Australia. Today, this plant is cultivated in many tropical areas worldwide. It is a popular plant due to its exotic look and edible fruits.
Characteristics
The Musa 'Tropicana' is a small banana plant that typically grows between one and two meters tall. The plant has large, broad leaves that are green in colour, sometimes with a red or purple tint. The plant produces small bananas, which are edible but less sweet than the bananas we know from the supermarket. The flowers are purple and usually appear in the summer.
Care
The Musa 'Tropicana' prefers a light position but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. The soil needs to be kept moist, without the plant sitting in water. In winter, the plant requires less water. It is important to fertilise the plant regularly for optimal growth and flowering. Like other tropical plants, the Musa 'Tropicana' needs high humidity.
