Origin
The Juniperus chinensis, also known as the Chinese juniper, is originally a native plant of Eastern Asia. Its distribution area includes China, Mongolia, Japan, Korea, and the Russian Far East region.
Characteristics
The Juniperus chinensis is an evergreen conifer that can grow from 3 to 12 meters in height. The bark is brownish-grey and peels in narrow strips. The leaves are needle-like, bright green, and often turn bronze-coloured in winter. Berries are blue-black and contain seeds.
Care
The Juniperus chinensis requires fairly low maintenance and grows well in full sun but also tolerates partial shade. The plant prefers well-drained soil and is drought tolerant. Pruning is rarely necessary and in the autumn, the low winter sun can damage the plant, which may necessitate protection. To prevent the development of diseases, care should be taken to ensure the plant does not become overly damp.
