Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea Pendula'
F00003335
Origin
The Vaccinium corymbosum 'Goldtraube 71', better known as the American blueberry, belongs to the heath family and has its origin in North America. The 'Goldtraube 71' is a specific cultivar selected for its outstanding fruit quality. It was first grown in Germany in the 1970s.
Characteristics
The Vaccinium corymbosum 'Goldtraube 71' is a hardy, deciduous shrub that can grow up to 2 metres high. The plant is recognised by its beautiful, bright red autumn colour and its large, tasty, blue berries, which ripen in late summer. The white, bell-shaped flowers appear in spring and provide delightful nectar for bees and other insects. The shrub is self-pollinating, but cross-pollination results in a higher yield of berries.
Care
The Vaccinium corymbosum 'Goldtraube 71' prefers a sunny to semi-shady location with well-draining, acidic soil. The shrub has a substantial water requirement, so make sure the ground stays consistently moist, especially during dry periods. Prune the shrub in late winter or early spring to promote growth and fruit setting. Although the shrub shows some tolerance to drought, regular irrigation will ensure the best fruit production.
