DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Prunus laurocerasus, also known as the cherry laurel, originally hails from Southeast Europe and Asia Minor. It prefers growing in deciduous forests, thickets and hillside forests on calcareous soil, but has since spread worldwide as an ornamental plant.

Characteristics
Prunus laurocerasus is an evergreen shrub that can grow into a small tree. It is characterised by its dark green, glossy leaves. The white flowers appear in spring and attract bees and other pollinators with their sweet scent. After flowering, small, dark blue to black berries may appear on the plant.

Care
The cherry laurel thrives best in moist, well-drained soil and in a sunny to semi-shade location. Although the shrub is reasonably hardy in winter, protection from harsh winter winds is recommended. Prunus laurocerasus requires little maintenance. Pruning is possible but not necessary - if pruning is carried out, it is best done after flowering so as not to harm next year's flowers. Watering is only necessary during longer drought periods.
