Origin
The Nandina domestica Blush Pink, also known as the Heavenly Bamboo, has its origins in East Asia where it grows wild in countries such as Japan and China. This elegant plant is part of the barberry family, Berberidaceae.
Characteristics
The Nandina domestica Blush Pink is characterised by its distinctive colouring. The plant has light pink, almost blush-coloured leaves in the new growth, which change to deep green as time passes. The Heavenly Bamboo flowers in the spring and can grow up to 2 metres high. In addition, the Nandina domestica produces small, red berries in the autumn.
Care
Caring for the Nandina domestica Blush Pink requires a place in full sun or partial shade and well-drained soil. The plant is not fully hardy and therefore needs protection in harsh frost. It is recommended to fertilise the plant in the spring and summer with a general garden plant fertiliser. Light pruning can take place after flowering to control growth and shape.
