Origin
The Kentia (Howea) forsteriana originally comes from Lord Howe Island, situated in the Pacific Ocean between Australia and New Zealand. Here, the Kentia grows wildly in the moist, subtropical rainforest. This plant was first discovered in the 19th century and has since then conquered the world as a beloved indoor plant.
Characteristics
The Kentia is a slow-growing palm renowned for its elegant, dark green leaves. The leaves grow in an elegant fan shape, and can easily reach up to 2.5 meters in length. Inside, the palm can grow up to 3 meters high. The Kentia forsteriana has a slender, single trunk, and in its mature state is capable of producing small, edible fruits.
Care
The Kentia has relatively few requirements in terms of care. The plant thrives in semi-shade or filtered sunlight and has a preference for consistently moist soil. Although the Kentia is resistant to some drought, excessive direct sunlight may damage the leaves. It is important to water the palm regularly, but beware of overwatering. With the appropriate care, this palm can grow and thrive indoors for many years.
