Origin
The Gloxinia Sonata Red, otherwise known as the Sinningia speciosa, originates from the tropical rainforests of Brazil. The genus name, Gloxinia, honours the German botanist and physician Benjamin Peter Gloxin. This beautiful plant was introduced to Europe in the 19th century, since when it has found its way into many households and botanical gardens worldwide.

Characteristics
The Gloxinia Sonata Red is famed for its stunning, vermilion red flowers that feel velvety to the touch. These flowers, which serve as a vibrant contrast against the dark green, velvet-like foliage, are bell-shaped and tubular. The plant is a herbaceous perennial that can reach a height of up to 30 cm. Despite being a tropical plant, the Gloxinia Sonata Red is a short-day plant that blooms in late spring or early summer.

Care
When it comes to caring for the Gloxinia Sonata Red, water plays a very important role. The plant likes a consistent, but not overly damp, soil. Pour the water directly into the pot, not over the leaves or flowers. The ideal light condition is bright but indirect light; direct sunlight can burn the foliage. The Gloxinia likes relatively high humidity, making the ideally suited environment a well-illuminated bathroom or kitchen.
