Origin
The Anthurium Lilli, also known as the Flamingo Plant, finds its origin in the tropical rainforest of Central and South America. The plant has spread across different continents over the years, but owes its exotic appearance to its original habitat. The name Anthurium comes from the Greek and means 'tail flower', this refers to the striking, tail-like inflorescence of this species of plant.
Characteristics
Characteristics of the Anthurium Lilli are its glossy, dark green leaves and striking flowers that can bloom throughout the year. The flowers vary in colour from red to pink, purple, and white, and have a velvety texture. The plant can reach a height of 60 centimetres and has a bushy growth habit. A unique characteristic of the Anthurium Lilli is the so-called bract, a brightly coloured leaf that surrounds the true flower and is often mistakenly thought to be the flower itself.
Care
For the care of the Anthurium Lilli it's important to know that the plant has a preference for a warm, humid environment, analogous to its original tropical habitat. The plant should be placed in a light place without direct sunlight and the soil should be kept constantly moist, but without the roots standing in water. Additionally, the Flamingo Plant requires regular fertilisation, ideally every four to six weeks. Lastly, the Anthurium Lilli is sensitive to draught and cold, so it's advisable to keep this plant indoors in a room where the temperature doesn't fall below 16 degrees Celsius.
