Origin
The Calathea Lemon Lime finds its origin in the tropical rainforests of South America, specifically in Brazil. The plant is part of the Marantaceae family, also known as prayer plants. Here the plant has evolved over centuries under the humid and shady conditions of the impenetrable forest.
Characteristics
The Calathea Lemon Lime is characterised by its remarkable leaves. They are intensely green in colour on the top side with a bright, almost neon-like, yellow border. The underside presents a rich purple-red colour. Moreover, the leaves can be uniquely rolled up at night, a characteristic phenomenon for the Calathea species. A mature plant typically reaches a height between 60 and 90 centimeters.
Care
A Calathea Lemon Lime requires meticulous care in order to grow and bloom optimally. The plant thrives best in a light spot away from direct sunlight. It also needs a constant room temperature between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. The soil needs to be kept lightly moist at all times, without the plant sitting in stagnant water. It is also advisable to maintain high humidity to simulate the tropical environment of its origin. This can be achieved, for instance, by regular spraying.
