Origin
The Aphelandra White Wash is one of the many varieties of the Aphelandra, a genus of about 170 species that predominantly occurs in Central and South America. The genus belongs to the Acanthaceae family and is mainly found in rainforests. The Aphelandra White Wash was specifically developed and cultivated for ornamental horticulture.
Characteristics
The Aphelandra White Wash distinguishes itself by its striking, green leaves that have a white wax layer, hence the name 'White Wash'. The plant is characterised by a compact growth habit and can grow to about 40 cm high and 30 cm wide. During the summer months this plant can bloom with beautiful yellow flowers that form a nice contrast with the light green leaves.
Care
In terms of care, the Aphelandra White Wash needs sufficient light, but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. The plant prefers a constant temperature around 20 degrees Celsius and high humidity. The soil must be kept constantly moist, but overwatering should be avoided. In addition, the Aphelandra White Wash will grow best if it gets some plant food every two weeks during the growing season. It is also important to regularly mist the plant to increase the humidity around the plant.
