Origin
The Arabis blepharophylla, also known as the rock cress, has its origin in California, United States. This perennial plant is mainly found on rocky slopes and grows at altitudes up to 3000 meters. The plant can be found in both open spots and in the shade of forests. Due to its high tolerance for various conditions, the Arabis blepharophylla has been able to establish itself in several places around the world.
Characteristics
Arabis blepharophylla is a low-growing plant that can become up to half a metre wide, but usually remains limited to a height of about 15 centimetres. The leaves are simple and usually light green in colour. During the spring, the Arabis blepharophylla flowers with light pink to purple flowers. Each flower contains four petals and often a star-shaped stamen. Despite the delicate flowers, this plant is considered hardy and winter-resistant.
Care
To ensure optimal growth for the Arabis blepharophylla, it is recommended to place the plant in a sunny to lightly shaded spot. The plant requires little water, and it grows best in well-drained soil. Make sure the plant is not in completely soaked soil to prevent root rot. Annual fertilisation of the soil increases the chances of flowering and overall health of the Arabis blepharophylla.
