Origin
The Miscanthus sinensis 'Little Zebra' is an ornamental grass that originally comes from East Asia. It can be found mainly in Japan, China and Korea, where it often grows on slopes, in valleys and along rivers. The grass has been refined through selection to the current 'Little Zebra' cultivar, which is cultivated as an ornamental plant in both East Asia and Western countries.
Characteristics
The Miscanthus sinensis 'Little Zebra' is known for its striking appearance. The grass has dark green leaves with bright, horizontal yellow stripes, hence its nickname 'Little Zebra'. It can reach a height of 1.2 to 1.5 meters and produces feathery, pink flowers in the late summer or early autumn that persist into the winter. The growth habit is upright and compact, giving the plant a graceful, ornamental look.
Care
The Miscanthus sinensis 'Little Zebra' thrives well in full sun or partial shade and needs a well-drained, fertile soil to grow. It is a durable grass that is resistant to drought, but also requires regular watering. The plant suffers little to no damage from diseases or pests. Pruning of this ornamental grass is generally not necessary, except in early spring to remove dead leaves and stimulate new growth.
