Origin
The Pulmonaria angustifolia, also known as the Narrow Lungwort, is a native plant species in Europe. This species is found on a large scale, particularly in the higher, cool parts of Western and Central Europe. The plant species is part of the Boraginaceae family and grows in the wild in forests, on rocky slopes and in scrubland.
Characteristics
The Pulmonaria angustifolia is a perennial plant that typically grows 30 to 40 cm high. The stems are upright and covered with rough hairs. The leaves of the plant are long and narrow, hence the name Narrow Lungwort. The flowers are funnel-shaped and change in colour as they mature, starting at pink, through red to purple-blue when they are fully grown.
Care
The Pulmonaria angustifolia thrives best in a well-draining, moist soil with full to partial shade. Since the plant prefers cool, moist conditions, it is extremely suitable for shaded gardens. Regular watering and feeding with compost or organic fertilisers help the plant maintain healthy growth. The Pulmonaria angustifolia is a hardy plant and can survive in colder temperatures.
