Origin
The Bucida buceras 'Shady Lady', also known as the 'Black Olive Tree', has its origin in the tropical areas of America. More specifically, the tree primarily grows in the tropical parts of Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and the north of South America. Here it mainly grows along the banks of rivers.
Characteristics
The Bucida buceras 'Shady Lady' is a slow-growing, evergreen tree that can grow to a height of 10 to 12 meters in its natural habitat. It has an uneven, oval crown and a typical black trunk, from which it derives its popular name 'Black Olive Tree'. The leaves are glossy green, narrower at the base and wider at the tip. In addition, the plant produces small inconspicuous flowers followed by berry-like fruits.
Care
One of the primary requirements of the Bucida buceras 'Shady Lady' is a sunny location. The plant tolerates pruning well, so it can easily be kept in shape. Watering is necessary, but the plant is tolerant of drought and can survive longer periods without water. It prefers well-draining soil and, although it has some salt tolerance, it performs better in areas with fresh water.
