Origin
The Euphorbia alluaudii originates from Madagascar, more specifically from the southern regions of this island. This plant is mainly found in dry, rocky and open areas where conditions are often harsh. Within its natural habitat, the Euphorbia alluaudii belongs to the succulent family, known for its adaptability in dry conditions. This explains the plant's ability to survive in the challenging climates of its original geographic location.
Characteristics
The Euphorbia alluaudii is an often-branched succulent that can grow as a shrub, up to 1.5 meters high. The trunk is covered with serrated, 4 to 5 millimeter long thorns and gives the plant a unique, decorative appearance. This succulent has small, yellow-green flowers that usually appear from April to July. An important characteristic of the Euphorbia alluaudii is its fleshy and bright green leaves that are often covered with fine hairs.
Care
Caring for the Euphorbia alluaudii requires basic knowledge of succulents. The plant needs well-drained soil and should be placed in an area with sufficient sunlight, but it is best protected from the midday sun to avoid burning. Although the plant can tolerate some drought, regular watering during the growing season is recommended. In winter, watering can be significantly reduced. Finally, this plant is quite tolerant of low temperatures, but it cannot withstand frost and therefore must be brought in or protected as the temperature drops.
