Origin
The Musa dwarf cavendish, also known as the dwarf banana tree, originally hails from Southeast Asia. It is a popular ornamental variety within the Musaceae family. The variety was brought to the west from Asia in the 19th century by Sir Henry Cavendish, from whom it takes its name.
Characteristics
The Musa dwarf cavendish is a tropical, evergreen plant with large, leathery leaves. It can reach up to six metres in height in its natural environment, but is usually smaller indoors as suggested by its name. This plant genuinely produces fruit, bearing small bananas that are edible, although they seldom ripen in an indoor environment.
Care
As a tropical plant, the Musa dwarf cavendish requires high temperatures, preferably between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. It also needs plenty of light and thrives in direct sunlight. Watering should be done regularly, and the soil should not be allowed to dry out between watering sessions. The plant loves high humidity levels and can benefit from being sprayed with water regularly.
