Origin
The Pandanus stellatus, also known as the star screw palm, is a tropical plant species that originally occurs in Southeast Asia and the South Pacific. This plant is particularly found in coastal areas, lush forests, and marshes. It is valued for its decorative qualities and is a popular choice as a pot plant in Western countries.
Characteristics
The Pandanus stellatus is known for its striking growth form: the stems wrap themselves in spiral patterns upwards. It possesses long, pointed leaves that are green in colour and often tinged reddish or orange at the edges. This plant can reach a height of four to six meters in nature, but generally stays smaller as a pot plant. In addition, the plant forms aerial roots that contribute to its specific appearance.
Care
The Pandanus stellatus requires a bright location, but can also handle semi-shade. It is important to water the plant regularly, but too much moisture can lead to root rot. Therefore, it is important that the soil dries well between watering sessions. During the growth period, from April to October, the plant benefits from monthly fertilisation. Maintaining a high humidity can be achieved by spraying regularly.
