Origin
The Acca sellowiana, also known as the Strawberry guava or Pineapple guava, has its origin in the highlands of southern Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and northern Argentina. The plant was first scientifically described in the early 19th century. Today, the Feijoa is cultivated worldwide, particularly in New Zealand and the United States.

Characteristics
The Acca sellowiana is an evergreen shrub or small tree that can reach a height of 3 to 7 meters. The plant produces edible fruits that resemble guavas in both texture and taste. The egg-shaped fruits are green in colour and have a skin with a waxy structure. The flowers of the plant are very striking, with long, bright red stamens and pink-white petals.

Care
The Acca sellowiana is a robust plant that thrives in a wide range of climates, from subtropical to Mediterranean. The plant prefers full sun or partial shade and well-drained soil. It is a fairly slow grower, but once established can grow significantly. It is recommended to fertilise once a year, in late spring, to promote a rich fruit production. Watering is necessary during the summer months, but this plant is tolerant of drought. The Plant can be pruned after the harvest, in late autumn or early winter.
