Aware of the influence that humans have on nature, the outdoor environment is increasingly being brought indoors. In the green industry style trend ‘Ode to Nature’, the focus lies on incorporating many plants and natural materials. This blog will explore how to apply this trend and which plants and materials to use.
Climate change is a hot topic that increasingly impacts people's daily lives and business operations. The realization that we all play a vital role in preserving nature is becoming more evident. This realization takes centre stage in the green industry trend for 2023: 'Ode to Nature.' It is expressed through a strong emphasis on lush plants and natural materials.
Plants with erratic shapes raise awareness of how plants grow in their natural environment. This concept can be applied to interiors by accentuating plants such as Dicksonia antarctica and Monstera. The Dicksonia highlights the unpredictability and vulnerability of nature through its uniquely growing, beautiful leaves. The torn leaves of the Monstera also align perfectly with the Ode to Nature trend.

In the Ode to Nature trend, nature plays the most significant role. The interior shapes and decorations with plants and containers are organic and irregular. Clean, angular shapes are absent, giving way to round and naturally appearing forms. This trend can be observed in organic furniture, such as sofas, where a natural planter like the Baq Lava complements well. In outdoor spaces, rigid borders are replaced by undulating ones filled with a diverse range of indigenous and exotic plants and flowers.
Material usage in this trend is primarily natural, with an emphasis on eco-friendly materials. This can include long-lasting, recyclable, or naturally sourced items. An ideal planter that aligns with these principles is the Baq Naturescast, made from natural forest remnants like tree bark and branches. Paired with a stunning green plant such as the Alocasia, it becomes a true eye-catcher.

The colour palette of the Ode to Nature trend is highly natural, with a particular emphasis on green and brown tones. Warm and cool, as well as dark and light variations of these colours, alternate to create a dynamic ambiance. Light, warm pastel shades may appear in flowers or decorations, but they do not dominate.
Natural textures and surface structures take the spotlight, with the featured patterns exuding a sense of tranquillity. This includes surface textures of wood or stone. More irregular ribbing and textures can also be observed, as seen in the Pottery Pots Oyster planter.
Combine hard elements like stone and wood with soft elements like moss and wool.
Opt for plants with distinctive features, such as curved trunks or pronounced roots. Let them be seen!
Bring nature indoors with a moss painting.
Add tree bark to your plant-pot combinations to create a natural effect.
When arranging bouquets, avoid bright-coloured flowers but instead combine flowers in soft tones with other natural materials.

Every year, Bloemenbureau Holland unveils the green industry style trends. Ode to Nature is the third of the four trends for 2023 that we highlight for you. Earlier, we shared more information about Layered Spaces and Collecting Memories. Soon, we will introduce the final trend that is perfect for autumn: Vintage Folklore.
