We are pleased to take you through the latest style trend of 2023, 'Vintage Folklore'. This trend features a variety of colours, materials, textures, and shapes. This creates a vibrant collection and a personal interior with a warm appearance. Plants play a major role in this trend. Read on quickly and discover everything this trend has to offer.

Warmth, connection, recovery

In the current world, people sometimes stand diametrically opposed to each other. There is a wide variety of opinions. In the Vintage Folklore style trend, it's therefore about seeking connection with each other and recovery. In this trend, there's attention for all the diversity around us, and this is expressed in a colourful interior where colour and plants are central. Plants are everywhere, and especially the specimens with differing shapes are embraced. Choose, for example, the dynamic Calathea or the lush Caryota mitis. In the interior, there are also many references to the past, particularly the 1970s and rustic folklore. This creates a lot of warmth, openness, and a feeling that everyone is welcome.

Recycling and upcycling

The design in Vintage Folklore is determined by handcraft, recycling products, and upcycling: something unusable is used in a new way, bringing it back to life. Respect and appreciation for the lifespan of (old) items are central. Broken products should be lovingly mended instead of thrown away and replaced with something new. This results in a diverse design language where creativity and attention emerge.

Materials in Vintage Folklore are often recycled; vintage materials with a nod to the 1970s. Think of old tiles, but also crochet and knitting, and fabrics like corduroy. Ceramic planters fit perfectly with this trend. The material has a natural variety in colour and texture, and the imperfections exude warmth. Another option is to hang plants in macramé holders and vary the shape and height.

Cheerful colours and lots of flowers

Vintage Folklore features a colourful palette with various colours and shades that don't necessarily match at first glance. Cheerfulness is paramount, and different colour combinations can be chosen. The typical warm 1970s colours are prevalent, and combined with pastels like lilac and pink, it is brought up to date. Stylist Silke says: “The plant pots are intensely coloured and don't seem to match at first sight. But by combining them, a unity is created.” The bright green of plants also perfectly complements this. Colour can also be found in the plants themselves; the beautiful colourful Croton 'Mrs. Iceton' fits this trend very well.

Influences from the 1970s, rustic folklore, and floral patterns are commonly found in this trend. From large to small, the millefleurs style is everywhere. The mixed patterns eventually form a harmonious whole. Plants with distinctive leaves also fit in here. Choose, for example, the Alocasia 'Polly' with contrasting veins and place it in a planter like the Laos, with round knobs.
